Project CONUS
CONUS - Competence Net Urban industrial Supply
In the CONUS network universities, municipalities, companies and other civil and public actors from the region "Niederrhein" are joining forces to jointly develop innovative and digital solutions. The project focuses on strengths and opportunities in the region in the areas of logistics, IT and agribusiness. The aim of the project is to develop new digitalised supply solutions with a focus on high climate protection potential and prospects for sustainable regional economic activity.
Structure of the project
The central aspect of the CONUS project is working in so-called ‘living labs’. The idea behind the living lab concept is to solve practical problems under real-life conditions through close collaboration between science and business. By operationalising the Living Labs, upscaling the findings from the Living Labs, presenting the results at events and networking with actors across all levels, the overarching goal of reducing the ecological footprint is to be achieved. The Chair of Service Operations actively supports the Living Labs ‘Genussregion Niederrhein’, ‘AgriWear - Digitalisation and Optimisation of Supply Chains in Agribusiness’ and ‘Smart Logistic Grids for Bioeconomy’.

31.01.2022 - Project for the simulation-based optimisation of flow production systems in the e-food sector
As part of the CONUS sub-project AgriWear, the Chair of Service Operations at the University of Duisburg-Essen is researching innovative, algorithm-based approaches for the integration of wearables into production processes. The approach supports companies in the e-food sector in overcoming the social challenges of climate change through more resource-efficient production.
08.07.2021 - Extension of the beer price calculator to include the bread value chain
To facilitate cost-covering pricing along the entire value chain, we have developed a manually operated price calculator in the Living Lab ‘Genussregion Niederrhein’ in collaboration with the ‘Korn B’ project. We focussed on the beer and bread value chain. A visualisation of the chain was also added.
